| Tinder Fungus We are asked often if we will ever be offering tinder fungus. Unfortunately, we will not. We have good reasons though. Chaga grows on just .025% of trees. This means it is rare. In addition to this, it takes 4 years before chaga spores grow enough to break through the bark of a tree and the conk lives for 20 years on the tree before falling off. This means that it will take a very long time for Chaga to replace itself naturally. Ethically, we have been very careful in harvesting Chaga, only taking what we need and leaving some behind. The depletion of this rare mushroom has been happening in small forests around the country where Chaga can be found and being sold for $10 an ounce. Others yet are trading $60 products for a gallon size zip lock back full, with the outer cortex removed, which is equivalent to around $1,000 worth of Chaga. For these reasons, we do not find it ethical to deplete a rare natural resource for monetary gains and will not support this. Since the list of natural available tinders are growing, there are more tinders that are available naturally in a larger variety of environments around the world that are equally reliable.
